This is a beautiful figure of the Chinese Goddess of Mercy, Quan Yin - also spelled Kuan Yin and Kwan Yin. The piece is wonderfully carved from wood, with her robes and shawl showing evidence of having been lacquered. This figure dates from the 18th century and is a simple rendering of the Goddess without the ornamentation of the scepter, gourd, dragon or necklace that is frequently seen on later versions. Quan Yin is serenely standing on the traditional Lotus flower and measures about 12 inches tall. The piece is in very good condition. The Lotus has 3 joined petal tips that are original to the piece. There is wear and loss of the lacquer, a couple of very small, old chips on two of the Lotus petals, 3 or 4 minor age cracks and the few small bumps that can be expected on this type of material over time ......SOLD |
